types of yoga

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with seated postures that are held for longer timeframes. Yin is a great class for beginners, as postures can be held from 45 seconds to two minutes. Yin can also be a thoughtful yoga practice that helps you find inner harmony. The classes are relaxed, as you're supposed to let gravity do the greater part of the work.

Raja Yoga/ Royal Yoga

Raja means King. A king demonstrations with independence, self-assurance and affirmation. Likewise, Raja yoga is the way of self-discipline which emphasizes the benefits of meditation for spiritual self-realization and the purposeful evolution of consciousness. It is through the practice of concentration that one learns to calm the mind and convey it to one point of core interest.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa means "to place in a special way" and in this case yoga postures. This class centers around ensuring a continuous flow of movement. Sequential movements interlink postures to shape the flowing vinyasa style. Vinyasa increases aerobic fitness, strength, and flexibility. While it is a little more challenging than our other classes, members are encouraged to flow at their own pace and determine for themselves what feels right for their bodies.

Hatha Flow Yoga

Hatha yoga classes are usually paced slower than other yoga styles. Hatha classes today are a classic approach to breathing and exercising. It is also a great place to work on your alignment, learn relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with doing yoga while enhancing strength and flexibility. If you are new to yoga, Hatha yoga is a good entry point for practice.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is one of the oldest forms of Yoga and sets the foundation for many of the yoga practices we see today. Ashtanga is renowned for its dynamic, flowing sequences. Each asana (pose) unfolds into another and is synchronised with the breath. It is excellent for creating harmony between body, breath, and mind.

Pranayama Yoga

Pranayama is the formal practice of controlling the breath. Prana refers to your life force, or the breath that sustains the body; ayama translates to “to extend or draw out”. Together, the practice means breath extension and control. Pranayama brings harmony between mind, body, and spirit.
