market day
What day was the 25th July? Of course it was Market Day! Market Day is a day when all the clubs and societies showing their best bits and trying to attract as many potential members as they can. While students, on the other hand, visit stalls after stalls to look for something or a group of merry people that they can resonate and share a passion with. Although this Market Day was relatively smaller and less grand than the one in the first semester, it was still very busy and lively!
This was also true for us, UQ Yoga & Meditation Club too! We were at Stall 122, right next to the Yacht Club near the Steele Building. To make sure we can be easily spotted from distance, we set up a banner stand outside our booth. Moreover, to present the best possible first impression to the students and crowd, our executive team embellished the stall with photos of past events as well as interesting facts and benefits of yoga.

It truly was a busy day – our stall had been flooded with members old and new since the start of the Market Day at 10 am till the end at 2pm! We must thank you for all the great support, especially when some students briefly stopped by and returned to sign up after some time, this is what keep us going! <3
UQYMC has always been an eco-conscious club. This year, we have decided to up our green game – we replaced traditional pen-and-paper sign up with laptops. Yay!! Similarly, we also stopped printing new flyers and reused flyers from the previous semester. Every little bit counts to be more eco-friendly :D
Surely the executive team had tried to make this Market Day a success as much as possible, but there is always something that could go wrong... Despite the fact that the membership cards had been dispatched and shipped before semester 2 started, they did not arrive before the Market Day started. ☹ But we cannot leave our members empty-handed after signing up, so we “graffitied” the membership cards from semester one and issued them as a temporary one – we’d call it creativity and flexibility hey XD

The new membership card for semester two 2018 that was later found to arrive on the night of the Market Day... but better late than never!
It was not all bad. For example, we got about 200 new members signing up during the first few hours! What an unbelievable achievement! In addition, we received compliments on the freebies – a double-usage bookmark ruler designed by our new Marketing and Design executives! Check this out!

With the massive number of registrations coming in till the very last minutes of the Market Day, we would like to call it a success. But as always, we would have achieved nothing without your support, enthusiasm and love <3. So a BIG thank you to all of you! You guys are definitely our reason and motivation to continue our diligent work!
Finally, a big shout out to our UQYMC executive team and the UQ Union who made all these happen! We really appreciate all the effort and hard work they had put into the planning and preparation to make this another successful and fruitful Market Day!
